Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: looks nice.
Cons: used it once then month later tried to use it again it didn't work. I am stuck with useless piece of technology, since return window was over.
Other Thoughts: Do not recommend
Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
Pros: Works as described I have 4 WD green 2tb drives in it for multimedia service to my network of modified GT 7720 thin clients attached to all 4 tvs in my home as smart tvs are too stupid for my needs this little box is preforming perfectly with esata connection on a SYBA card i tried it with USB 3.0 and in that configuration the drives were always up and ran warm with esata they are on standby until called this is what i wanted and its what i got i am happy with it and like that i don't have to get a screw driver and all that to change a drive when needed i do recommend it
Cons: none so far
Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
Pros: Easy to set up. Sleek look with low profile. Drives are easily inserted and slots contain flaps which aid in preventing dust. Low power usage, considering. Suction cup feet seem to work very well on smooth surfaces.
Cons: (May be Windows specific) Using this dock with USB3 is not recommended. Your drives will continually disconnect at random intervals, regardless of any power settings you have made in Windows. I have since bought a PCI-E eSata card to use instead and I am no longer having drive connection issues.
Other Thoughts: I have no other issues with this product. I am considering buying another.
Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: power buttons for each drive and for the unit as a whole.
Cons: puts drives to sleep not based on the power settings on my computer, no eject buttons to help with removal (as thermaltake bays have)
Other Thoughts: I own 3 Mediasonic proboxes, 1 USB 3.0 and 2 USB 2.0. They are fantastic but I really wanted a 4 bay unit I could swap drives easily and often (the other units are enclosed and you need to attach handles to the drives before inserting them). So I was really looking forward to this and sadly it is a very frustrating piece of equipment. no matter how I set my power settings for when to spin down the hard drives it doesn't affect the ones in this unit. they spin down after just a few minutes. It cant be good for a drive to spin down and up again multiple times every hour. Literally almost every time I go to access a drive it needs to wake up! it is slow and frustrating and concerns me. even if I have both units attached at the same time, the probox works normally and this unit keeps doing the same thing. last problem, when my computer goes to sleep, the probox goes to sleep and when I wake the comp all 4 drives show in explorer as before with no problem. but not this dock, each time the comp goes to sleep the drives all get removed and then reinstalled upon boot. programs close cause the drives are gone and sometimes the drives dont even get recognized properly again on start up. VERY disappointing item. Love Mediasonic, but hate this dock. Buy the probox.
Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
Pros: Fast, simple---no downloads or disks---just drop HDD in and go.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Using a 8 core fx with windows 7.
Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
Pros: Works as advertised.
Cons: The suction feet don't really suck much.
Other Thoughts: As stated in the documentation, with USB connections, any time you power on or off one HDD, all connected HDDs are disconnected briefly. This might be an issue if the user isn't aware of the limitation. This appears to be a common quirk for all 4-bay docks.
Ownership: less than 1 day
Pros: None
Cons: Why would anyone purchase this unit when you can buy the External enclosure from Mediasonic or Cineraid or Rosewill for less money and some of those are also tool-less and screw-less ? Enclosures are quieter, have a fan to actively pass air over the drives, and are more secure and easier to carry as a portable unit, than this thing.
Other Thoughts: I give this a Zero.
Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
Pros: I did setup a eSata card on my machine and am happy to report alot better speeds in transfer so eSata is the way to go with this puppy.
Cons: Slow in USB mode and can't control each hard drive in USB mode only eSata with all of them resetting. The sound of the HDD spinning can give you a false impression that your drive maybe going 'South'
Other Thoughts: I have noticed one thing you can hear the HDD working alot more then you would inside a computer or a enclosed box. Makes them sound like a percolator. Now i have heard this before and it was a sign that a hard drive was going 'South' and it did. But i have 3 band new HDD different sizes by Western Digital and they all do it.
